2021 Event Photos

Our next-to-last drive of 2021 blended old favorite back roads with new approaches familiar places. 20 Porsches, 29 people, and a perfect fall day guaranteed a great time for all.

October 23, 2021

Once again, the Castle High School parking lot served as a convenient starting point.

We met before 9:00 AM for greetings, paperwork and instructions.

Late October's morning sun cast long shadows across IN261 on our way to Boonville.

261 ended and we took IN62 into and through the Warrick County seat.

Traffic was busy here and there.

We followed 62 to Gentryville and then took 162 through Lincoln State Park to our rest stop.

Here we were joined by Bob Donnelly, Kurt Heim and Bruce Dougan.

We passed the Holiday World amusement park in Santa Claus, IN, and turned north to rejoin 62.

We turned east on 62 to head for the driving treat called IN 145.

IN 62 is pleasantly entertaining but those who have driven these roads knew what was coming in a few minutes

Our anticipation was building.

145 north of I-64 is roughly seven miles of challenging road leading to Birdseye, Indiana.

The fun begins when you cross over the Interstate and dive into the forest.

145 is truly entertaining. However, the "best" parts are impossible to photograph.

This calm and well-manicured section was an exception.

Frequent tight curves made it difficult to keep fellow drivers in sight.

Where did he go?

64 and 145 headed east out of Birdseye. Then 145 turns off to go to French Lick. We stayed on 64 until it joined 37. In English, we followed 37 to Paoli, though Orleans and on to Mitchell.

Spring Mill State Park lies just a few miles east of Mitchell along IN60.

We posed for a quick group shot before entering the State Park Inn for lunch.

Phil Green, Eric Cotter and Brett Schultheis.

Joe and Jean Wolf, Dean Becher, Pam and Mark Faris.

Jerry Jindrich, Jacque Becher, Susan Jindrich and Joe Wolf. Four SIR members made the drive but did not stay for lunch: Curt and Emily Hamilton, Bruce Dougan and Doug Ramey.

This old wagon was parked between the Inn and parking lot.

Spring Mill State Park is in the Eastern Time Zone and it was well after two by the time we left the Inn. Some of us stopped to see the Gus Grissomm Memorial with its historic space capsule and memorabilia from the local native and astronaut. Others may have toured the Pioneer Village but the park closes early at this time of year, so the SIR photographers took no pictures. For shots of the village from our 2018 drive and exploration, visit these two pages: 2018SpringMill.html and 2018SpringMill.html.
